Jamel Hamdaoui
Founder of Jamel Gems
Trainer & Expert Gemmologist
By the grace of Allah, I worked for over 10 years in Switzerland, in Geneva, in the watchmaking industry, a field where precision and rigor are essential.
I was then trained in gemmology, also in Geneva, which gave me a complete expertise, both scientific and practical.
Today, I pass on this knowledge through my training programs and, in parallel, I share my discoveries of stones that represent signs and miracles of Allah.
Sofia Berrabah
Jamel Gems Collaborator
Trainer & Gemologist
By the grace of God, I learned gemology from Jamel, my husband, and today I help him pass on his knowledge.
I guide my students in discovering and understanding precious stones with kindness and a pedagogical approach that makes learning accessible, clear, and stimulating, while also offering support to help them progress.
In addition, I dedicate myself to reciting the Quran according to Tajwid, a practice that brings me serenity and inspiration every day.

What you will learn
A small preview of what you will learn in gemmology.
Natural vs Synthetic:

Natural Emerald
Here is a beautiful natural emerald from Zambia, Africa, with ‘solid’ type inclusions of ‘mica and/or biotite’ and a ‘crystal’ appearance. This stunning inclusion garden is a hallmark of the authenticity of this 100% natural emerald. These inclusions are easily visible under a 10x loupe.

Synthetic Emerald
Here is a synthetic emerald (Colombian type), produced using a hydrothermal process. It can be recognized by its specific ‘shark tooth’ type inclusions. Lab-created gemstones can be sold when they are clearly labeled as ‘synthetic’ or ‘lab-created’. Unfortunately, this type of gemstone is often wrongly presented as natural, which misleads the buyer.
Let’s take a closer look at the different natural inclusions:
